ADDITIONAL CRIMINAL RECORD CASTING REVEALED

Apple TV+ today revealed additional casting for the new thriller Criminal Record, produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios and written by BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (VeraIndian Summers).

Criminal Record is a powerful, character-driven thriller set in the heart of contemporary London. An anonymous phone call draws two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case, one a young woman in the early stages of her career; the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy.

The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain. Peter Capaldi (Doctor WhoThe Thick of It) stars as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Cush Jumbo (The Good WifeThe Good FightThe Beast Must Die) stars as Detective Sergeant June Lenker.

Also starring in the series are the newly revealed:

  • Dionne Brown as Detective Constable Chloe Summers. A colleague of June’s and effortlessly popular; but she’s no pushover.
  • Stephen Campbell Moore (The History BoysWar of the WorldsMasters of the Air) as Leo. June’s long-term partner; not exactly a hipster, but hipster-adjacent. What will happen when their stable relationship is put under real strain, forcing them to address the differences in the way they see the world?
  • Charlie Creed-Miles (Wild BillPeaky BlindersGiri/Haji) as Detective Sergeant Tony Gilfoyle. A key part of Hegarty’s team, they have a close friendship borne of decades of mutual loyalty. However: Tony has a dark side and a secret life which he keeps hidden from others.
  • Shaun Dooley (It’s a SinThe StrangerThe Witcher) as Detective Sergeant Kim Cardwell. Part of Hegarty’s team and inner circle. A good man in a storm but not a leader; he’s favoured, cheerful, one of the boys.
  • Aysha Kala (The Undeclared WarIndian Summers) as Sonya Singh. Sonya came on board with Errol’s case as the lawyer to appeal his conviction. A born leader still looking for her tribe. Principled, funny, blunt, sometimes prickly, dogged.
  • Tom Moutchi (FamalamThe Hustle) as Errol Mathis. The man at the heart of the historic murder investigation, Errol is halfway through a 24-year prison sentence for murdering his partner. Since the trauma of this night he has suffered memory loss and was convicted on a confession which he since retracted. He thought he had turned his life around and then this happened, is there a way back for Errol?
  • Cathy Tyson (Help - BAFTA Winner 2022, Band Of Gold) as Doris Mathis. Doris has been relentless in her fight to clear her son Errol’s name. Embattled and driven, this is the fight of her life. She was forced to make an ugly choice back in the day, when her son was convicted, which has haunted her since and lost her people along the way. She is galvanised when she learns there might be new hope, and she is emboldened to seek out the truth.
  • Zoë Wanamaker (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s StoneMy FamilyShadow and Bone) as Maureen, June’s mother; anxious, loving and a constant voice in her daughter’s ear. She aspires to be independent and forthright, but also needs her family’s emotional support.

BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (creator of Vera from the Anne Cleeves novels and Indian Summers), BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins (ShetlandVera), BAFTA and Academy Award winner Peter Capaldi (Doctor WhoThe Thick of It) and Laurence Olivier Award and Critics Choice Award nominee Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, The Good Fight, Trying) serve as executive producers.
